Courses in the community initiative

We’re delighted to have started our courses in the community initiative again.  Last year we were delivering First Aid courses.  We’re still doing that now but have introduced our range of mental health first aid workshops.

The Ella effect

Ella is always keen to get involved.  She welcomes each and every participant and quickly establishes who will give her the most attention!  It never ceases to amaze us, the joy she brings to everyone she comes into contact with.  Even those who aren’t so keen on dogs.  We call it the ‘Ella effect’.

Pets and mental health

Being around animals doesn’t appeal to everyone.  But for many, as outlined by the Mental Health Foundation, ‘A pet can be a great source of comfort, companionship and motivation for their owners.  In many ways, pets can help us to live mentally healthier lives.’

They can be therapeutic for a number of mental issues such as:

  • Depression
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Agoraphobia
  • PTSD
  • Borderline personality disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Stress

Never work with children or animals

Never work with children or animals….we say what a load of rubbish!  They’re the best to work with and they work great together.  Check out the likes of Twyla Nursery Doha’s instagram and you’ll see the calming effect animals have on the young children.

If you would like to see our therapy dog Ella on your next mental health first aid session or on any other course, do let us know….she’s happy to spread a little joy!
